Summer Vacation 2008

This summer the kids & I spent 5 weeks in Glorieta, NM with my family. It was wonderful getting away from sticky Savannah and the army. My dad flew out to Georgia to drive us home. Our trip out was pretty uneventful. We got as far as West Memphis, AK the first night. Unfortuately the Days Inn there thought they could charge me for 2 nights when we spent just 1 night there. The 2nd night we stopped in OKC. We could have driven farther but learned that the kids need 2-3 hours to burn energy before going to bed after being strapped to their car seats for 9 hours. The final day after 3 potty breaks in 15 minutes in OKC, I told the kids we were not stopping to pee until we got to TX. Thankfully all 3 napped to the rest area in Texas but Papa Lou wasn't as comfortable;). The kids loved being at Papa & Grandma Lisa's house. They loved to visit their great-grandparents, aunts, and uncles (especially Uncle Chris & Uncle Timmy). The only downside to the trip is my grass allergies flared up and I suffered from allergies and sinus infections the majority of our visit.

Daniel joined us in NM along with my brother and his friend Erica on July 3rd. Just in time for the 4th of July and my cousin Carrie's wedding. Jarrett turned 5 on July 10 and Samuel's first birthday was July 13th. In between the boys' birthdays we had a pirate birthday party for them. It was a wonderful blessing to have Daniel's parents, brother, sister-in-laws, nieces, & nephews make the trip from Tucson to share in the celebration. This was the first time (w/the exception of Daniel's parents) that the K family got to meet Avery & Samuel. They had last seen Jarrett when he was 10 months old in 2004! Thank you Mom & Dad K, Paul, Jodi, Josh, Julia, Tracy, Kirstin, & Tommy for the visit!

Daniel went back to Tucson for a week with his parents while we stayed in NM. One last trip to Alburquerque to see the dinosaurs -with a dead camera battery:(. It was hard saying good-bye to family since we don't know where the will move us next year. Coming back from NM we choose to drive thru Texas and follow I-20 instead of the I-40 route we were used to. NEVER AGAIN! Texas is too big! Samuel & I were called traitors to Daniel's beloved NE Cornhuskers because Samuel let me take his picture in a TX Longhorn rocking chair at Craker Barrel. We made it back to Savannah without any trouble. Maybe next year the kids & I will make the trip while Daniel is baking in the sandbox;).
